In Cooking Like the Vikings, the author brings together a variety of Viking recipes. In this way, he revives the cuisine of the High Middle Ages, which can largely only be reconstructed from food scraps, for today's cuisine. The book is aimed at anyone passionate about cooking and wanting to try something new, but also at reenactors who want to present authentic cuisine. The book is complemented by an extensive list of foods that were also available to the Vikings, and this list also makes clear the historical dimension of each recipe. All recipes can be cooked. These also include quite unusual preparations, but which make the Vikings' living conditions understandable.

Author Rannveig Moroldsdotter writes in the prologue to her cookbook:

To my knowledge, no such collection of recipes from early medieval cuisine exists. But it's much more. It's a cookbook for young and old, and for everyone who loves cooking and wants to try new things and experiment in the kitchen. It's a collection of authentic recipes, some of which have been passed down from generation to generation and others created through experimental archaeology. I've added a list to everything, which lists the foods appearing in the recipes individually and briefly describes their origins.
