Discover Scottish Claymore, Two-Handed Sword, 16th Century, Without Scabbard

Scottish claymore, two-handed sword, 16th century, without scabbard

This two-handed claymore (derived from the Scottish Gaelic word claidheamh-mòr , which simply means great sword) is modeled after the impressive double-edged longswords used by the famous Scots Highlanders during the clan conflicts and Border Wars with the English Crown fought between the 15th and 17th centuries. As one of the later developments of the Scottish broadsword, the claymore proved its worth for nearly 300 years. The two-handed sword was a powerful infantry weapon that could deliver devastatingly powerful blows. While the blade design was relatively simple yet elegant, the unique hilt set it apart from other swords of its day.

Our economical and historically authentic reconstruction of the claymore sword is based on preserved 16th century originals (such as those found in the National Museum of Scotland in Edinburgh or the British Museum in London) and features the classic design of this popular weapon.
The broad, long, evenly tapered, full-tang blade is forged from EN45 spring steel and grooved about halfway along its length. The cutting edges are not sharpened. The onion-shaped pommel is made of steel and the handle is of stained and polished wood. The striking, 29 cm long, steel crossguard is made from one block, consisting of a hilt, extensions running centrally along the shaft, and arms sloping down towards the blade and ending in quatrefoil ornaments.

This beautiful piece of Scottish history, reminiscent of the Highlands and the wild clansmen who fought and lost their lives there, is delivered unsheathed.

This two-handed sword from the late Middle Ages/Renaissance is designed as a collector's item or decorative object. It is also ideal as an accessory, for example to complete your costume, and will make your transformation into a proud Scottish warrior simply perfect.
