Discover Scottish Claymore, Two-Handed Sword, 16th Century, Without Sheath
Scottish Claymore, two-handed sword, 16th century, without scabbard
This two-handed claymore (derived from the Scottish Gaelic word claidheamh-mòr , which simply means greatsword) is modeled after the impressive double-edged longswords used by the famous Scottish highlanders during the clan conflicts and border wars with the English crown fought between the 15th and 17th centuries. As one of the later developments of the Scottish sword, the claymore proved its effectiveness for nearly 300 years. The two-handed sword was a powerful infantry weapon that could deliver devastating, powerful blows. While the blade design was relatively simple yet elegant, the unique hilt set it apart from other swords of its time.
Our economical and historically authentic reconstruction of the claymore sword is based on preserved 16th-century originals (such as those found in the National Museum of Scotland in Edinburgh or the British Museum in London) and features the classic design of this popular weapon.
The broad, long, and evenly tapered full-tang blade is forged from EN45 spring steel and grooved approximately halfway along its length. The cutting edges are unsharpened. The onion-shaped pommel is made of steel, and the handle is of stained and polished wood. The striking 29 cm long steel crossguard is made from a single block, consisting of a hilt, extensions running centrally along the neck, and arms that slope toward the blade and terminate in quatrefoil ornamentation.
This beautiful piece of Scottish history, reminiscent of the Highlands and the wild clansmen who fought and lost their lives there, is delivered unsheathed.
This late medieval/Renaissance two-handed sword is designed as a collectible or decorative item. It's also ideal as an accessory, for example to complete your costume, and will make your transformation into a proud Scottish warrior simply perfect.
