The elegant and heavy medieval belt we offer here is a reconstruction of a girdle (also called a dusing - English arse-girdle ), as seen on the figure of King Arthur. It can be seen in the Schöner Brunnen in Nuremberg.

The Schöne Brunnen, designed in the shape of a Gothic church spire, was built between 1385 and 1396. The fountain features forty painted figures representing the worldview of the Holy Roman Empire. Among them are the so-called Nine Heroes or Nine Good Heroes , representing pagan antiquity (Hector of Troy, Alexander the Great, Julius Caesar), Judaism (Judas Maccabeus, David, Joshua), and Christianity (King Arthur, Charlemagne, Godfrey of Bouillon). In the courtly and knightly milieu of the 14th century, this group of historical, biblical, or legendary heroes embodied the ideals of chivalry and knighthood that emerged in the Middle Ages.

Since the figures were made of sandstone, the fountain had to be restored several times over the centuries until the surviving remains of the Gothic original were finally brought to the Germanic National Museum in Nuremberg in the 19th century, where they can still be admired today. The fountain with its colorful figures, which stands today on Nuremberg's main market, is a replica that was rebuilt in 1912 based on the worn original.



Our approximately 6cm wide belt consists of a thick leather core, which is covered by an additional layer of finer black leather stitched on the back. Like the statue of Arthur in Nuremberg, the strap is decorated with a series of square plaques and a brass quatrefoil belt buckle depicting a floral motif. The knight's belt is available in three sizes and has no holes. The back of the buckle is fitted with a prong that anchors into the hole at the end of the strap.

This beautiful leather belt is an elegant and authentic addition to any medieval outfit and a perfect accessory for medieval markets, reenactments, or LARP events. It is best suited to both early and late medieval settings and is especially suited to portraying a 14th-century knight or nobleman.
