Get Cingulum, Mainz Type Roman Belt, Leather and Brass (Tinned)

Cingulum militare, Mainz type, 1st century AD
Roman legionary belt with pterygos and tinned brass fittings

< br />The Roman cingulum militare was an ornate leather belt decorated with metal plates and often fitted with brackets or devices for hanging the soldier's dagger. This war belt not only served to hold up the warrior's braccae (trousers) during battle, but was also a sign of military rank or honour.

The girdle often included a leather apron, consisting of several flat, narrow strips (so-called pteryges or pteruges ), from which the g&uuml belts hung and were decorated with continuous rows of riveted metal fittings, each strip ending with metal pendants ( pensilia ).

This replica of a Roman legionary's cincture or balteus is richly decorated with tinned brass fittings. The hinged buckle, riveted plaques and medallions, movable pugio mounts and pendants are based on historical finds from the Mainz area. The original artefacts date back to the 1st century AD.

The hip belt is made from sturdy 2mm thick leather and is also lined with suede on the inside to cover the wearer's tunic and protect it from the rivets holding the decorative panels together. The strap is pre-cut and adjustable to a variety of sizes. A leather cord is included for tying and attaching a dagger to the pugio's round hangers.

The striped apron is made from the same leather (unlined). Each leather strip has an integrated loop and can therefore be slipped over or removed from the belt as desired.

It is an ideal accessory for Roman reenactment, LARP, stage or TV/film. This beautiful Roman belt will make your transformation into a proud warrior just perfect.
