Medieval spark iron

Our hand-forged carbon steel fire bat is based on medieval originals.

If you strike the steel against the sharp edge of a flint, sparks are created that jump onto the dry tinder and make it glow. Tinder sponges were formerly used as tinder. These were obtained from tree sponges and ignited by soaking them in a solution of saltpeter, horse urine, or rubbing them with black powder.
