Medieval spark iron



Our hand-forged carbon steel fire bat is based on medieval originals.



If you strike steel against the sharp edge of a flint, sparks are created which jump to the dry tinder and make it glow. In the past, so-called tinder sponges were used as tinder, which were obtained from tree sponges and made to burn by dipping them in a solution of saltpeter, horse urine or by rubbing them with black powder.
