The blowgun has a long history around the world. It is believed to have originated in Malaysia and reached the Philippines and even Japan via the Malaysian and Indonesian archipelagos. However, the blowgun was not exclusively present in Southeast Asia. It also appeared in the Western Hemisphere, from the jungles of South and Central America to the southeastern areas of what is now the United States. Blowguns were equipped with small stones or hardened clay pellets as ammunition and were used to hunt small animals and birds.

Cold Steel Big Bore® blowguns feature large .625 magnum barrels and are capable of firing heavier arrows faster than other models on the market. They have an effective range of approximately 60 feet and with them an experienced shooter with proper training can hit a 2-inch circle from an incredible distance and shoot heavy arrows that can penetrate a sheet of plywood approximately 1/2-inch thick.

Cold Steel Big Bore® blowguns are extremely easy to carry outdoors. They are quite light and, thanks to the rubber eyelet, are ideal as a hiking stick. But if you are looking for an even more practical model that fits in a backpack, Cold Steel has the solution! The 5-foot model, disassembled into two parts, consists of two threaded tubes and a reinforcing connecting piece. It offers the same rigidity, aiming precision and long range as a standard 5-foot model, but has the advantage of being easy to disassemble and store.
