This beautifully detailed vendelhelm is a replica of an original find from the Valsgärde ship grave (boatsgrave 8), a farm on the banks of the Fyris ( fyrisån ) near ancient Uppsala ( gamla uppsala), Sweden. The grave dates from approximately 625–650 AD and the warrior’s helmet lay at his feet. The original piece is preserved in the Gustavianum Museum at Uppsala University.



The replica was made of 2 mm steel and equipped with a chain mount made of riveted flat rings with an inner diameter of 8 mm. The plates are made of thinner steel (pressed sheet metal) and are attached to the helmet with brass straps. The comb and browbands are also made of brass. The elaborate patterns are faithful reproductions of the original motifs. This early medieval goggle helmet is equipped with an adjustable leather inlay and a chin strap with an antiqued brass buckle.



This helmet is designed as a collector's item or decorative object.

The steel used here is not stainless and may show slight signs of corrosion. We recommend taking care of the hulls periodically, for example with Ballistol, a universal oil ideal for preserving steel products.
