In the European High Middle Ages, the spangenhelm or bandhelm was the predominant helmet type. The Germanic nasal helmets of the High Middle Ages, the spangen helmets, and the spectacle helmets of the Vendel Period (ca. 550–800 AD) and the Viking Age served as inspiration for the helmet shown here.

The design of this Viking helmet with goggles shows its close relationship to the comb helmets of the Vendel period. It is made of 1.2 mm steel and consists of a round helmet bell, a headband, two crossed bands/strips or fasteners (a crown-like band and an ear-to-ear band), and a goggle with nose protection. All individual helmet parts are connected to each other by steel rivets. The interior is blackened for better corrosion protection and has an adjustable black leather insert, which is secured to the rim of the helmet's bell with sturdy rivets.

Our beautiful Vendel helmet / Viking helmet stands out particularly for the hammer marks on the surface of the helmet cap and the detailed embossing that adorns the face protection.

To protect the neck, throat, and lower face, the Viking Age helmet has an attached chainmail helmet that reaches down to the shoulders. The 4-in-1 chainmail consists of 1.6 mm thick, unriveted steel rings with an inner diameter of approximately 1.5 mm. The platter is attached directly to the bottom of the bell and glasses.

This beautiful wearable helmet is perfect for completing the armor of a proud Norse warrior from the Vendel or Viking era. It's not only an ideal accessory for reenactment, LARP, stage, TV/film, or costume, but it's also an excellent collectible or decorative item for any helmet collector's treasure.
