Acquires Upper Helmet from the Rieters of Kornburg, Nuremberg circa 1375, 1.6mm Steel
Upper helmet of the Kornburg Rieters, Nuremberg around 1375, 1.6 mm steel
-Suitable for combat -
This large upper helmet is a replica of a late medieval funerary helmet of the Rieter von Kornburg family from the All Saints' Church in Kleinschwarzenlohe.
The Rieter von Kornburg family (=Knights of Kornburg) was a patrician family documented to have lived in Nuremberg from 1361. The helmet dates from around the same period, around 1375, and was probably made by a Nuremberg armorer. It is now on display in the Germanic National Museum (GNM) in Nuremberg.
Our reconstruction is handcrafted from 1.6 mm thick sheet steel. The steel pieces are joined with brass rivets, as are the elaborate and decorative brass appliqués on the front. Incidentally, they are only painted on the original hull.
The helmet has an unriveted spring steel chain (braided type btw), a comfortable padded riveted entrance and a cowhide chin strap with a brass buckle.
Available in two sizes: my l.
Details:
- Material: 1.6 mm steel
- Chain tensioner made of unriveted elastic steel rings (btw), inner diameter 8 mm
- Incl. padded fabric insert with cowhide chin strap
- Finish: blued and lightly oiled
