Coolus 'd' (haltern), Roman helmet, brass
First-class reconstruction of a typical coolus helmet found at the ancient Roman camp near Haltern am See (Germany). 2,000 years ago, one of the most important Roman military complexes in Germania was located there, on the right bank of the Rhine. It was home to one of the most famous legions: the 19th Legion, which was completely destroyed at the Battle of Varus in 9 AD.
The original of this helmet dates back to the 1st century AD and can now be seen in the Roman Museum in Haltern.
