Gift Large Pembridge Helmet, ca. 1370, 2mm Steel.
Large Pembridge helmet, approx. 1370, 2 mm steel
- Suitable for exhibition fights -
This replica is inspired by Sir Richard Pembridge's helmet. The original dates back to around 1370 and is now housed in the Royal Scottish Museum in Edinburgh.
The so-called great helmets ( great helmets ) were often worn over smaller, lighter helmets (e.g., brain caps). They were widespread throughout Europe in the Middle Ages. Numerous contemporary illustrations (miniatures) and finds from Germany, Flanders, England, Italy, Switzerland, Austria, etc., demonstrate the popularity of this type of helmet. These helmets were used, among other things, in the Battle of Crécy (1346) and Poitiers (1356).
The helmet has a comfortable leather lining and a chin strap with a brass buckle.
