Large Royal Pot Helmet with Crown, Medieval Helmet, 1.6mm Steel

With brass crown

The so-called great helmet , also called topfhelm , kübelhelm or fasshelm (English big helmet or great helmet or great helm ), was often worn over a smaller, lighter helmet (e.g. a brain cap). It was widespread throughout Central Europe in the Middle Ages, and numerous contemporary illustrations, miniatures and finds from Germany, Flanders, England, Italy, Switzerland, Austria, etc. demonstrate the popularity of this type of helmet. Such helmets appeared at the time of the Crusades, in the late 12th and early 13th centuries, and were used by knights until the 14th century.

To stand out from the crowd and emphasize their status, kings often wore a helmet with a crown on the battlefield. This made it easier for them to be recognized by their own soldiers in the heat of battle and to receive special protection. It is possible that the crown also offered the king the opportunity to be taken hostage and held for ransom rather than being killed immediately by the enemy.

The finely crafted, handcrafted medieval helmet we offer here is made of 1.6 mm (16 gauge) steel and decorated with a riveted brass crown. All individual parts are connected to each other by steel rivets. The viewing slots are about 13 cm long and 0.5 to 1 cm wide and the numerous round recesses on the right side ensure the necessary air circulation.

The blackened interior has a leather inlay and the adjustable 3mm thick brown leather chin strap is fitted with a brass buckle (antique finish).

This truly majestic and wearable helmet is suitable for light combat, reenactment, larp, stage or tv/film and will complete your transformation into a noble king. Of course, it also makes an excellent decorative addition to any helmet collector's treasure trove.
