Enjoy the Gjermundbu Helmet, Viking Helmet with Goggles and Chain Holder, 2mm Steel

Gjermundbu helmet, Viking helmet with goggles and chain holder, 2 mm steel

This Viking wearable helmet with goggles, visor, and short nose guard is a reconstruction of a helmet found in a burial mound at the Gjermundbu farm in Ringerike Municipality, Norway. The Viking helmet dates to the 9th/10th century, but its overall appearance, and particularly the band fittings or clasps , as well as the goggles, show its close relationship to the Norse crested helmets of the Vendel period, which predated the Viking Age.

This replica is hand-forged from 2 mm thick steel. The helmet's round bell, fasteners (a headband, a crown band, and an ear-to-ear band), and the face guard are connected by steel rivets. The blackened interior has an adjustable leather insert secured to the helmet's bell with rivets, and the approximately 1 mm thick leather chin strap closes with a drawstring.

To protect the neck, the helmet is fitted with a short chain guard (the remains of a spring can also be found in the original find). The 4-in-1 chain mesh consists of riveted, 1.2 mm thick round steel rings (type rrr braided - riveted round rings ) with an inner diameter of approximately 1.2 mm. The placket is attached directly to the lower edge of the bell.

An early medieval spangenhelm that will make your transformation into a proud Norse warrior perfect! Of course, this helmet also makes an excellent decorative addition to any helmet collector's treasure trove.
