Enjoy Gjermundbu Helmet, Viking Helmet with Goggles and Chain Holder, 2mm Steel

Gjermundbu helmet, Viking helmet with goggles and chain holder, 2mm steel

This portable Viking helmet with goggles, visor and short nose guard is a reconstruction of a helmet found in a burial mound at Gjermundbu farm in Ringerike Municipality, Norway. The Viking helmet dates to the 9th/10th century, but its general presentation and in particular the band fittings or clasps as well as the goggles show its close relationship to the Nordic crested helmets of the Vendel period, which preceded the Viking Age.

This replica is hand-forged from 2 mm steel. The helmet's round bell, fasteners (a headband, a crown band and a band running from ear to ear) and face protection are connected to each other by steel rivets. The blackened interior has an adjustable leather insert fastened with rivets to the helmet's bell and the approximately 1 mm thick leather chin strap is fastened with a cord.

To protect the neck, a short chain guard is attached to the helmet (as the original find also contained remains of a spring). The 4-in-1 chain link consists of 1.2 mm thick riveted round steel rings (type rrr braided - riveted round rings ) with an inner diameter of approx. The spring is fixed directly to the lower edge of the bell.

An early medieval spangenhelm that will make your transformation into a proud Nordic warrior perfect! Of course, this helmet is also an excellent decorative addition to every helmet collector's treasure trove.
