Acquires Deurne Helmet, 4th Century.
Deurne helmet
A very elaborate reconstruction of a late Roman cavalry helmet excavated near Deurne, Holland. The rich decorations suggest that the wearer was a very high-ranking officer. A Roman coin also found with the helmet indicates the year 319, so the helmet most likely dates from the early 4th century.
The helmet's lid is riveted from six individual pieces (locks). The cheek pieces are characterized by good mobility. The neck flap is secured with two leather straps with buckles and can therefore be locked or even removed. The helmet is handcrafted from steel and brass and has a very comfortable leather lining. The nose, cheek, and neck flaps are lined with red leather on the inside.
