Very nice reconstruction of a late medieval pot helmet (also called bucket helmet or barrel helmet ), as used in the 14th century.



The so-called grand helmet was often worn over a smaller, lighter helmet (e.g. a brain cap). It was widespread throughout Central Europe in the Middle Ages, and numerous contemporary illustrations, miniatures and finds from Germany, Flanders, England, Italy, Switzerland, Austria, etc. attest to the popularity of this type of helmet. Such helmets appeared at the time of the Crusades, in the late 12th and early 13th centuries, and were worn by knights until the 14th century.



The replica offered here is made of 1.6 mm carbon steel (16 gauge) and has a brass cross-shaped appliqué on the front. The individual parts of the knight's helmet are connected to each other by steel rivets. The viewing slots are approximately 15 cm long and 1.3 cm wide and the numerous slits in the lower half ensure the necessary air circulation.



The interior is blackened and has an adjustable, riveted leather insert. The chin strap, made of 2 mm thick brown leather, is fitted with a brass buckle (antique finish).
