Treat yourself to an Auxiliary Infantry Helmet, Based on the Niederbieber Discovery, Made of Brass
Auxiliary infantry helmet, by Gravert (after the Niederbieber find), made of brass
The original of this replica is a find from the Niederbieber archaeological excavation site, the remains of a Roman auxiliary fort near the Upper Germanic-Raetian Limes on the Wied, a tributary of the Rhine. Helmets of this type were probably used by both infantry and cavalry during the 2nd and 3rd centuries AD.
This type of helmet is particularly notable for its all-round protection without any significant impairment of hearing and vision. The generously cut cheek flaps cover the temples, cheeks, and chin and are secured at the front with a pin. The structure of the helmet's bell is reinforced by ribs at the top. The neck is separately protected by an approximately 9 cm wide umbrella, as is the forehead. The points at the corners of the ribs, as well as on the frontal peak, were probably intended to deflect blows from an opponent.
