Treat yourself to an Auxiliary Infantry Helmet, based on the Niederbieber find, made of brass
Auxiliary infantry helmet, from Gravert (after the Niederbieber find), made of brass
The original of this replica is a find from the Niederbieber archaeological excavation site, the remains of a Roman auxiliary fort near the Upper Germanic-Raetian Limes on the Wied, a tributary of the Rhine. Helmets of this type were probably used by both infantry and cavalry during the 2nd-3rd century AD.
This type of helmet is particularly characterised by its all-round protection without any significant impairment of hearing and field of vision. The generously cut cheek flaps cover the areas of the temples, cheeks and chin and are fastened at the front with a pin. The helmet's bell structure is reinforced by ribs at the top. The neck is separately protected by an umbrella approximately 9 cm wide, as is the forehead area. The points at the corners of the ribs as well as on the front peak probably had the purpose of deflecting the opponent's blows.
