Treat yourself to an English Closed Helmet, 1.6mm Steel.
English closed helmet, late medieval/renaissance helmet, 1.6 mm steel
This beautiful helmet with a flip-up visor is a reproduction of a typical early 16th-century tournament helmet, also known as a close helmet . Developed in the late 15th century, this helmet was worn by knights and men-at-arms throughout the late Middle Ages and the Renaissance. It was a fully enclosed helmet that protected both the head and neck. While also used on the battlefield, it was extremely popular in jousting tournaments.
What clearly distinguishes this visor helmet from the Schaller and Armet (from which it was developed) is the completely different opening and closing mechanism: the integrated, pivoting chin reef opens the chin (or chin reef ) vertically rather than laterally and is mounted on the same pivot pins as the two-part visor.
The reconstruction we offer here is made of 1.6 mm (16 gauge) steel and is therefore only suitable for limited combat use. As with the surviving originals, the folding visor is a split construction consisting of two independent elements, hinged on either side at a single pivot point at temple level, allowing the wearer to choose whether to slide up just the top or the entire visor. The entire front half is attached to the same pivot points as the two-piece visor and can be folded down to don the helmet. When closed, it is secured by a hook on the side. The helmet bell has a generous ridge; the viewing slots measure approximately 6 cm long and 0.8 cm wide, and numerous round recesses ensure the necessary air circulation.
The blackened interior has an adjustable leather inlay and the adjustable chin strap made of 3mm thick black leather is fitted with an antique brass buckle.
This beautiful and wearable knight helmet is suitable for light combat, reenactment, LARP, stage, or TV/film, and will make your transformation into a proud knight simply perfect. Of course, it's also an excellent addition to any helmet collector's treasure trove.
