Treat yourself to a lined medieval hood, unisex, canvas, various colours

Medieval canvas lined hood, unisex, various colors

This hood, also called a coiffe or coif , is made of sturdy canvas and lined with a light cotton fabric. It fits snugly over the head, covers the hair, and can be closed with the two straps under the chin.

The use of headdresses was common for both sexes in the Middle Ages. Caps of this type were popular mainly among men and children, but also among women of all social classes. The lower classes wore them at work as protection from the sun and dirt, the middle classes often wore them under their royal helmet, knights (in padded form) under their chainmail hoods and kings under their crowns. The hood was also used to protect against parasites such as lice.

It was part of the basic clothing of the Middle Ages, as shown by many historical representations, for example in the illuminated manuscript known as the Rutland Psalter or in the Maciejowski Bible (also the Crusader Bible ) from the 13th century.

This beautiful and simple bell is ideal for medieval markets, larp, reenactment or living history.
