Washbasin hood, hundsgugel, approx. 1390, 1.6 mm steel
The hundsgugel is a variation of the late medieval saucer. Until around 1420, the hundsgugel was the preferred helmet shape among knights and warriors. The distinctive design of the visor gave this helmet its name, hundsgugel (= dog hood/dog head), and its widespread use throughout Central Europe.
Our helmet is based on a Milanese helmet from around 1390 AD, made of laboriously crafted steel armor and riveted with brass ornaments.
The helmet has a removable, movable visor and has a comfortable leather lining and a leather chin strap.
