Get Gotland Viking Axe Head (No Handle)

Viking axe head from Gotland

During the Viking Age, the axe enjoyed great popularity as a tool and weapon. Compared to the sword, it was not only simpler but also much cheaper to produce, making it the most important weapon for common people in early Medieval Scandinavia.

The Viking axe head we offer here is inspired by a late 10th-century archaeological find discovered on the Swedish island of Gotland (Stenstugu, Hejde) and now housed in the Gotland Museum in Visby. It can be admired.

The axe's broad blade is forged from carbon steel, has a blunt edge, and an open cross-section in the middle. The layer of carved black tinder gives the Viking axe a rustic, authentic character.

This Gotland Viking axe with a cross motif is designed as a collector's item or decorative object. You can easily attach your own handle to this axe head using an axe wedge (e.g., ulf-ax-09v). This axe is also ideal as an accessory, for example to complete your costume, and will make your transformation into a proud warrior a simple and perfect gift.

Details:

- Material: carbon steel (not stainless!), blunt edge
- Total length (from neck to edge): approx. 21.5 cm

- Blade length: approx. 16cm

- Thickness: approx. 4.5 mm (cutting edge approx. 2.5 mm)

- Eye (shaft hole): approx. 35 mm x 23 mm

- Weight: approx. 680 g

- Delivered without axle

The above specifications may vary slightly from copy to copy.

Please note:

Since this early medieval crossaxe is a forged product, no two pieces are alike! Slight variations in shape and/or surface are completely normal, and the images above are for illustrative purposes only.

The steel used here is not stainless and may show slight signs of corrosion. We recommend regularly maintaining the axes, for example with Ballistol, a universal oil ideal for preserving steel products.
