Cold Steels® Monolithic Ax and Tool® Series - Fixed Blade Knives

Lynn C. Thompson has developed a very special fascination with the simple functionality displayed by forged knives. Their one-piece construction, made from a solid piece of steel, sets new standards in terms of stability and durability. The monolithic (= one-piece ) knives from Cold Steels® in the Monolithic Axe and Tool® series are not cheap castings, but are made from 52100 carbon steel by drop-forging. For each model in the series, the solid steel body is expertly heat-treated from the sharp blade tip to the end of the powerful handle. For a comfortable and secure grip, each knife is ergonomically shaped and features a deep recess in the handle section. Since these knives can be easily modified or customized, they are also perfect as "project knives." If desired, the handles can be retrofitted, filed, engraved, or otherwise modified to create an individual design.

Forged Bowie

This addition to Cold Steel's® drop-forged knife line measures 14" overall and features a 9.5" blade. The knife shares many features with the other models in the series, including a sturdy, single-piece steel construction that ensures amazing stability. However, unlike other forged knives, it features faux staghorn handle inlays.

The flat blade has a moderately thin edge that has been honed to a razor's edge. The tip of the blade is pointed enough to allow deep penetration, and the center of gravity is directly in front of the fore-end, making the knife maneuverable and only slightly heavy.

Like the other knives in the Drop Forged series, it comes with a Secure-Ex™ sheath that meets U.S. military quality standards and is equipped with a removable Cordura belt loop.

Carbon steel 52100

52100 carbon steel is a durable steel ideal for fixed hunting knives and other outdoor fixed blades. Knife makers often choose it to forge tough, low-wear blades that must withstand harsh conditions.
