Enjoy Bokken, Training Sword with Optimized Handle

Bokken, a training sword made of polypropylene

2015 optimized version with cord-like handle

Even the world's greatest swordsmen held a simple wisdom centuries ago. Certainly: to become a reasonably good swordsman, you must strive to learn proper fighting techniques, footwork, and basic stances. To become a master swordsman, you must also train with a sharp weapon.

If your goal is to safely and effectively handle a sharp blade, you should first practice with a sword that is roughly the size, weight, and feel of a real, sharp weapon, but with the added advantage that it can cause serious injury to you or your training partner.

This idea was already practiced by the ancient Romans, who used blunt wooden swords to train their gladiators and soldiers in sword fighting. And Japanese samurai also used wooden practice swords, called bokken . The bokken was made from an extremely hard wood called kashi (white oak). These wooden swords are a brilliant solution to an annoying problem and are so effective that they are still used today. However, authentic bokken made from Japanese hardwood are quite expensive. Another disadvantage is that a wooden sword can, of course, rot or crack, splinter, or chip. Sooner or later, it will become unusable.

Cold Steel's solution was to develop a suitable replacement made of synthetic material, at a nearly unbeatable price and highly resistant to the elements. All products in the Cold Steel training weapon collection are made from the highest-quality polypropylene. They are surprisingly similar to their real counterparts in terms of length, weight, and handling. These training weapons are not as rigid as wooden swords and also have the decisive advantage of being almost unbreakable, extremely hard, and cut-resistant.

Cold Steel Japanese training swords are the world-famous swords of the Warrior Series. Their wide blades have the same flowing lines as Warrior swords, but are made of extremely durable polypropylene and have no sharp edges or points. With the right protective gear, they are ideal for sparring and training, as well as for fitness exercises and club training.

Each model also features a handle that closely mimics traditional cord wrapping, ensuring excellent control even with thick gloves. These swords offer the modern martial artist above-average training potential.
