Bastian Zach was born in Leoben in 1973 and spent his youth in Salzburg. He lives and works as a freelance writer and screenwriter in Vienna. In 2020, his crime debut "Donaumelodien – Praterblut" was nominated for the Leo Perutz Award.

Bastian Zach has been a metal fan for over 35 years. His entry-level drugs were Accept, Scorpions, and Iron Maiden, quickly followed by a harder groove with Nuclear Assault and Slayer. This passion also took him all over Europe, from Monsters of Rock at Donnington to Bang Your Head, Earthshaker Festival, and several times to W:O:A, to name the most important.
