Treat Yourself to Brass Scales for Slat Truss, 25mm x 35mm, with Center Rib (Pack of 25)

Brass scales for lamellar armor, 25mm x 35mm, with central rib (25 pieces)

Scale armor and lamellar armor are among the oldest forms of plate armor. Both consisted of overlapping plates (lamellae) that were interlocked in horizontal rows to form a dense pattern reminiscent of the scales of a fish. While scale armor was also laced, sewn, or riveted onto a stable base made of padded cloth or tough leather, lamellar armor did not require any supporting material.

They were widespread in many cultures and periods and came in a variety of styles, shapes and patterns. The material was diverse, from metals such as iron, steel and bronze to thick, sturdy leather and even horn or ivory.

If well made, this type of armour was almost impervious to blows and stab wounds and also offered particularly good protection against blunt weapons. Scale armour/lamellar armour was popular among warriors in the Middle East, Asia, as well as the Romans and Vikings, and was used well into the Middle Ages.

The set of 25 loose brass scales offered here is the optimal accessory for the discerning reenactor who wants to create his scale armour, for example a Roman lorica squamata . build it yourself. The scales are perfect for your own DIY projects and also ideal as a replacement or spare for existing armour that you wish to repair, customise or expand.

The plates are made from approximately 0.4mm (26 gauge) thick brass and have a central rib and 5 holes. The larger hole allows for lacing, sewing or riveting the individual scales to a base, and the smaller holes on the long sides are there to provide stability for the scales and to connect them together.
