Treat yourself to a Medieval Pennant, Headscarf, Natural
Pennant, medieval scarf, natural
This rectangular shawl is made from plain cotton fabric. The edges are finished with a rolled hem. It can be tied as a pennant or headscarf to represent the Middle Ages, but can also be used in many ways in modern everyday life, for example as an elegant hair band, as a turban or as a shoulder scarf. or as a scarf elegantly wrapped around the neck.
In the Middle Ages it was common for married women to cover their heads (hence the expression "get under the hood "). Medieval forms of head covering included veils, hoods, caps, headbands, headscarves or pennants.
There were several techniques for creating the pennant. It was wrapped around the forehead, chin and nape of the neck and always covered the hair. Historical depictions of a pennant can be found, for example, in The World Chronicle - The Weaver - Charlemagne , an illuminated parchment manuscript by Rudolf von Ems written around 1300, or in the Maciejowski Bible (also Crusader Bible ), an illustrated Bible from the 13th century.
You can find instructions for creating the pennant in our blog post a> .
