About this book
This new volume chronicles the events that culminated on the field of Austerlitz in one of the most famous battles in history. Not only was it Napoleon's first campaign as Emperor of France, but it was also the first major test of his Grande Armée. The Emperor himself regarded it as his greatest victory, and it undoubtedly earned him a dominance of Europe that would remain intact for nearly a decade. Until now, most accounts of the campaign have relied almost exclusively on French sources, but following extensive research in the Austrian archives, Ian Castle is now able to provide a much more balanced account of Austerlitz.
the authors:
Ian Castle is a founder member of the Napoleonic Association and is still very involved in its activities both in Britain and on the mainland of Europe. He also served for many years on the Council of the Victorian Military Society and is currently a consultant to the Anglo Zulu War Historical Society, involved in the archaeological project working on the battlefields of the Zulu War. Ian began writing over ten years ago and, as well as contributing numerous articles to military journals, has written ten books, five of which are in the Osprey Campaign series.
