Azagaya, African spear, with long shaft



The spear is one of man's oldest and most reliable weapons. The earliest examples were nothing more than sticks or staffs with a fire-hardened tip. As man gradually learned to carve stone, cast bronze, and forge metal, the spear was optimized accordingly. As a thrusting weapon, the spear could outperform any shorter weapon: club, axe, sword, or even bayonet. As a throwing instrument, it allowed its owner to hunt the largest predators while remaining out of reach of their fangs and claws.



Thanks to the cold forging technology developed by Cold Steel, highly efficient push and throw spears can be offered in a cost effective manner. Each spear features a premium American ash shaft and a sk-5 medium carbon steel tip. Like traditional spear tips, these have been heat treated and tempered to spring hardness. This is intended to ensure that the spear tip bends rather than breaking or splintering, even under heavy impact.



The Assegai was designed by the legendary Shaka, King of the Zulus, in the early 19th century. With its long, broad blade and short shaft, this spear was an optimal thrusting weapon and revolutionised tribal warfare in Southern Africa.



Cold Steel's Assegai has the same deadly properties as the original. It is available with both a short shaft (for pushing) and a long shaft (for throwing). A secure-ex® sheath is included.
