Black Knight Armor, Hammer, Tournament Armor
Although the origin of combat armour dates back to Egyptian times and was developed by the Greeks and Romans, the best-known medieval armour is made of steel or iron plates connected to each other with hooks, nuts and nails, holding the warrior in place with straps and clamps. Armour reached perfection in the Middle Ages and by the mid-16th century it was transformed into a luxurious garment for the warrior, decorated and embellished with the beauties of sculpture and the metal industry. From the 18th century onwards, armour was only used as incomparable decoration in castles, palaces, museums and all those places that wanted to incorporate a beautiful historical memory into their rooms.
At the Kö, the Madrid Arms Museum, one of the largest and richest collections of armour in the world is housed. It mainly contains pieces from the 16th century, the time of Charles I, which inspired Marto to reproduce them in different sizes or scales, with the materials used being similar to the originals. The most similar are: hand-crafted iron and steel, brocades and wooden bases, which give the metal an antique appearance and a patina that protects it from external oxidation.
