Knight's armor decorated with lance and shield, hammer, tournament armor
Although the origin of the form of armor for combat dates back to the Egyptian period and was developed with the Greeks and Romans. The most famous medieval armor made of steel or iron plates joined together with hooks, nuts and nails and fastened to the warrior with straps and clamps. The armor reached perfection in the Middle Ages and by the mid-16th century it was transformed into a luxurious garment for the warrior, decorated and embellished with the beauties of sculpture and the metal industry. From the 18th century onwards they were only used as an incomparable adornment of castles, palaces, museums and all those places that wanted to incorporate a beautiful historical memory into their rooms.
The Royal Arms Museum in Madrid houses one of the largest and richest collections of armour in the world, mainly 16th century pieces from the time of Charles I, which inspired Marto to use them in various sizes or scales, with the materials used being very similar to the originals: handcrafted iron and steel, brocades and wooden bases that give the metal an ancient patina that precedes it; it protects it from external oxidation.
