Treat yourself to Charles V Knight's Armor, Marto
Knight's armor of Charles V, Marto
Although the origin of battle armor dates back to Egyptian times and was further developed by the Greeks and Romans, the best-known medieval armor is made of steel or iron plates connected to each other by hooks, rivets and pins, straps, and buckles.
From the late 15th to the mid-16th century, armor became a luxurious garment for the warrior, adorned and decorated with the beauty of sculpture and goldsmithing. As firearms became more sophisticated, from the 18th century onward, they were used only as incomparable ornaments in castles, palaces, museums, and all other places that wish to preserve a beautiful historical memory of them.
The Royal Armory of Madrid houses one of the largest and richest collections of armor in the world, primarily containing pieces from the 16th-century Charles I era. Marto drew inspiration from these pieces, creating them in different sizes and scales. The materials used are very similar to the originals: handcrafted iron and steel, brocades imitating period fabrics, and wooden bases that give the metal an antique patina that predates it; they protect it from external oxidation.
