Discover the Knight's Armor of Charles V, Gold Finish, Marto
Knight armor of Charles V, gold finish, hammer
Although the origin of battle armor dates back to Egyptian times and evolved with the Greeks and Romans, the best known medieval armor is made of steel or iron plates attached to hooks, nuts and nails are connected to each other and hold the warrior with straps and clamps. Armor reached perfection in the Middle Ages and by the mid-16th century it was transformed into a luxurious garment for the warrior, decorated and embellished with the beauties of sculpture and the metal industry. From the 18th century onwards they were only used as incomparable decoration in castles, palaces, museums and all those places that wanted to incorporate a beautiful historical memory to their rooms.
At the Kö, the Madrid Arms Museum, one of the largest and richest collections of armour in the world is housed. It mainly contains pieces from the 16th century, the time of Charles I, which inspired Marto to reproduce them in different sizes or scales, with the materials used being similar to the originals. The most similar are: hand-crafted iron and steel, brocades and wooden bases, which give the metal an antique appearance and a patina that protects it from external oxidation.
