Long cutlass, hammer

In ancient times, these cutlasses were given various forms and during the Arab invasion there was a significant production of them in Toledo. A selection of these cutlasses is in the army museum in Madrid. Their main characteristics are the cross that rises towards the handle on one side and descends towards the blade on the other, and their wide, curved blade. This stylised cutlass shows all these signs and is a reminder that Toledo was an important centre of sword production even during the Arab period.
