What is Excalibur?
Excalibur is the magical sword of King Arthur, the legendary British monarch who, according to myth, united his kingdom and led the resistance against Saxon invaders. There are different versions of its origin, but two are best known:
-
The sword in the stone : Only the true king of England could extract it.
-
The sword given by the Lady of the Lake : A magical, unbreakable sword that shone with its own light.
Both stories are often conflated, but in some versions, they are different swords!
