Treat yourself to Sax (Seax) from the Cacique

Chieftan's Sax (Seax)
Every Viking prince was a skilled or absolute expert in the handling of swords, shields, spears, and axes. Since these long, heavy, and often bulky weapons were not always within easy reach, Vikings almost always carried a large sax (seax) knife with them 24/7. The sax (seax) was usually hung on the front or back of the belt (just where there was room so as not to interfere with the carrying of other weapons) and was immediately at hand in case of a sudden attack. In battle, it was often combined with other weapons.
Although most of Sax's (Seax) knives were more similar in profile to the Cold Steels® Woodsman's Sax (Item No. 88hua) (with a straight edge and a convex blade back sloping toward the tip), other variations such as the broken back presented here where Chieftan's Sax (Seax) are also quite popular.
The blade of the chieftan's sax was forged from carbon steel, tempered to spring hardness, and given a satin finish. It has the so-called broken-back profile, where the straight back of the blade is initially raised very slightly and then drops abruptly towards the tip. Actually, in its basic form, it is no different from a clip-point bowie blade, but it predated the bowie by many centuries! Since the chieftan's sax is primarily designed as a weapon and only plays a secondary role as a tool, it is fitted with a subtle brass handguard that prevents fingers from coming into contact with the blade and provides some protection against enemy weapons.

But Cold Steel® is particularly proud of the hand-carved handle, which looks simply stunning with its elaborate embossed braided pattern. Together with the brass guard and pommel, the overall look is harmonious.
Each Sax (Seax) is delivered with a sturdy, historically faithfully reproduced brown leather case with brass fittings, a leather laced side seam, and elegant leather loops.
Carbon steel 1055
The carbon content and relatively low levels of other materials in this steel make it a very stable material, free from the brittleness inherent in most high-carbon steels. This steel is ideal for blades that require high impact resistance and is therefore often used for large fixed knives, machetes, and swords.
