Gift Spearhead and Spearhead for the Greek Dory

Spearhead and spearhead of the Greek dory

DIY kit

The ancient Greek dory , the one-handed spear (or lance) of the hoplites in the 3rd and 2nd centuries BC, typically consisted of a 2–3 m long wooden handle, a flat iron spearhead, and a strong, pointed bronze spearhead, the so-called sauroter . This end cap not only served as a counterweight to the spearhead and as protection for the lower end of the shaft, but was also an effective weapon in its own right that could be used as a replacement if either the spearhead or the shaft broke in battle. Thanks to the stable, sharp point at the end, the spear could also be anchored upright in the ground. As warfare tactics evolved, the dory was eventually replaced by the sarissa , a two-handed pike twice as long.

The Greek spear set offered here includes a leaf-shaped steel spearhead with blunt edges and a cast brass spear base with a classic four-sided design and sharp point. Since both are already drilled, you can mount them on a wooden shaft of your choice to create your own hoplite spear. Delivery does not include a shaft or mounting hardware.
