Enjoy Early Medieval Wing Spearhead, Approx.
Early medieval wing-shaped spearhead, approx. 28.5 cm
The spear was very popular during the Viking Age. The large number and variety of surviving examples suggests that spears were used more frequently than swords, as they were not only simpler but also much cheaper to produce.
The so-called winged spear, which was primarily used as a thrusting weapon and is often associated with the Norse, is actually of Franco-Carolingian origin. It was adopted by the Vikings and used for both hunting and fighting well into the High Middle Ages. The lateral wings, or projections, were intended to prevent the point from penetrating too deeply when thrusting (which would have made drawing the spear difficult) and offered an effective way to parry enemy attacks in close combat.
This Carolingian-style winged spearhead is made from heat-treated EN45 carbon steel and is ideal for Viking and medieval settings (circa 8th/9th to 11th/12th centuries). It is approximately 28.5 cm long, has edges approximately 17.5 cm long, and the blade, which tapers sharply from a wide base to a long, narrow point, is reinforced with a distinctive midrib, providing additional stability and ensuring greater penetrating power. The protruding wings on either side of the nozzle are approximately 1.25 inches thick. Two holes allow it to be mounted on a wooden handle of your choice to create your own Viking Age or early medieval spear. Delivery is without a shaft and without fixing material.
Alternatively, collectors can also purchase our wooden spearhead stand (sold separately, item number 1816375000) to stylishly display their treasures in their armory.
Please note that this spearhead was designed primarily as a collector's item, decorative object, or accessory and is not suitable for exhibition combat! The blade tip is not rounded, and the edges are not sharpened, but ground (with proper equipment and practical experience, they can be sharpened if necessary).
