Yari spear



Paul Chen's yari was an essential weapon of samurai on the battlefields of feudal Japan, and required great skill to handle and maneuver due to its size and length.



This piece is constructed according to the su-yari, or straight spear, design. The double-edged triangular blade is forged from T10 carbon steel and features a deep groove on the flat side of the blade.



Due to heat treatment, a clear line of hardness (hamon) can be seen on each cutting edge. The tang is kept sharp for a long time to ensure better shock absorption.



The shaft (ebu) has a black painted surface and has a flattened section at the bottom to better recognize the position of the blade. The durability of the spear is further enhanced by the one-piece construction of the staff.



This version has a 42.6 cm (16 3/4 inch) long blade.
