Robert Bruce shield, wooden, painted

The medieval coat of arms offered here shows an upright crimson lion (the so-called lion rampant ) on a yellow background – the coat of arms of Robert I of Scotland (1274–1329), also known as Robert the Bruce or Robert the Bruce. In 1314, after years of fighting the English crown, King Robert defeated the army of Edward II of England at the Battle of Bannockburn – a decisive battle that ultimately led to the restoration of Scotland’s independence. Alongside the legendary William Wallace, Robert the Bruce remains one of Scotland’s most famous historical figures.

This heraldic shield has the typical features of heraldic shields used in the early middle ages (approx. 12th - 14th century): a triangular or v-shape, a flat top and rounded sides that taper towards the bottom. It is made of plywood, lined with linen and hand-painted. The back of the shield, painted yellow, is fitted with two shield shackles (straps/loops for the arms) and a longer shoulder strap made of strong, sturdy leather, which are firmly fixed with steel rivets. The leather padding, which is fixed with nails at arm height, provides improved protection against knocks and impacts.

Although this wooden shield is too light and thin for full contact, it is still a great prop for light combat, reenactment, larp, stage or tv/film and will complete your transformation into a proud and noble knight or warrior. It is also a lovely collector's item, display piece or decorative object for all lovers of English history and heraldry.
