Woodstock Black Prince Edward Belt SIZE S
Buy Black Prince Edward Belt From Woodstock
Medieval knight belt of the black prince edward of woodstock, leather with brass fittings, various sizes
Although Edward of Woodstock (1330–1376, also known as the Black Prince ), the eldest son and heir to the throne of King Edward III of England, died prematurely and never ascended to the English throne, he was praised by his contemporaries as a model of chivalry. His successes as an English military commander in the Hundred Years' War between England and France earned him a place among the greatest knights of his time.
The elegant and heavy medieval belt we offer here is a reconstruction of his waistband (also called dusing - English arse-girdle ), as depicted in his life-size tomb effigy. The original gilt-bronze template can still be admired today in Canterbury Cathedral in Kent, England (see last image above).
Our approximately 6cm wide belt consists of a thick leather core, which is covered by an additional layer of finer black leather sewn on at the back. Just like the original picture, the belt is decorated with a series of blue-enamelled, disc-shaped brass plates depicting a lion's head. The quatrefoil-shaped belt buckle, also made of blue-enamelled brass, shows a standing heraldic lion (the so-called lion statant or statant guardant - English lion statant guardian ). The knight's belt is available in three sizes and has no holes. The back of the buckle is equipped with a spike that is anchored in the hole at the end of the strap.
This beautiful leather belt is an elegant and authentic addition to any medieval outfit and a perfect accessory for medieval markets, reenactments or LARP events. It best suits high and late medieval settings and is especially suited to represent a 14th century knight or nobleman.

The brass buckle and fittings may have a slight patina or tarnish. We recommend taking care of them periodically, for example with Ballistol, a universal oil ideal for preserving steel and brass items.
