Imperial Gallic Roman helmet -g- Weisenau made of steel with helmet cap

This Roman helmet (also known as a galea or cassis ) is a faithful replica of a so-called Imperial Gallic helmet of the Weisenau type G ( Imperial Galic G Weisenau) from the middle of the 1st century AD. The original, made of iron and bronze, remarkably well preserved, was recovered from the Rhine near Mainz-Weisenau and can be admired in the Andreasstift Foundation museum in Worms. Characteristic features of this special type of helmet were (among other things) the sloping neck guard, the pronounced brow ridges, the brow bar, and the circular decorative rosettes.

This authentic replica of a Roman officer's helmet with movable cheek flaps is made of 1.2 mm polished steel and richly decorated with brass appliqués. As the helmet has no integrated lining, it comes with a cotton-padded hood for comfortable wear. The small rings on the inside of the cheek flaps also offer the option of attaching a chin strap (not included).

The two-tone black and white crest , which was probably reserved for Roman soldiers with special powers within the cohort (e.g., the optiones , the next highest-ranking officers after the centurions), is made from natural horsehair. The supplied brass bracket allows the helmet cap to be securely attached to the Roman helmet.
