Masterpieces of Asian blacksmithing

- The sword blades are hand forged in carbon steel and tempered in a traditional way.

- The blades have been folded 12 times (resulting in approximately 8,000 layers) and have a beautiful Damascus structure.

- The sharp blades have been provided with a bo-hi (channel) to reduce weight.

- The handles (tsuka) are made of wood, covered with real fish skin (seed).

- The handle wraps (tsuka-ito) are traditionally made of black cotton.

- Two menukis embedded in the handles.

- The sword rods are especially long and are fixed to the handle with 2 bamboo pins (mekugi).

- The sheaths (saya) are made of wood.

- The blade clamps (habaki) are made of brass.

- Made according to museum templates.



John lee shintai katana

Shintai are material objects that serve as relics at religious sites. In Japanese mythology, they are considered the abode of the gods (kami). The sword, together with the mirror and the precious stone (insignia of the Japanese throne), is a typical shintai. Japanese gods are represented on the tsuba.
